Lois Kauffman, 84
July 06, 2024
Lois Kauffman, 84, of Ephrata Manor and formerly of East Lampeter Township, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Bart, Lois was the daughter of the late Harry H. Graver, Jr. and Alice M. (Sollenberger) Graver. She graduated from Solanco High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing.
Lois worked as a Practical Nurse in the ICU at LGH, where she met Larry Kauffman on his first day of employment there, and they then shared 59 years of marriage.
During her career Lois did diverse types of nursing. She was a loving, giving and hospitable person, and she continued being a “nurse” while residing at Ephrata Manor.
She had a sarcastic sense of humor. Flowers, the beach, the sun, friends, and her family made her smile. She loved quilting and crafting with her sisters every Thursday and going to lunch with the Red Hat Society.
Lois and Larry enjoyed traveling to Germany and Switzerland, and a cruise to the Bahamas. She also cherished vacations with her best friend Jane.
She attended Community Bible Church in Gordonville, volunteered with Bird-in-Hand Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and worked part time at Walmart and Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market.
In addition to her husband Larry, Lois’s family includes their son, Bryan Kauffman, husband of Jennifer of Lancaster, granddaughter Annalise Kauffman, of Lancaster, her siblings, Stanley Graver, husband of the late Linda (Garner) of Wellsboro, Shirley, wife of James Hershey of Manheim, and Naomi, wife of Jay Carper of Newmanstown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lois’s family will greet guests from 10 to 11:30 am, followed by a celebration of her life at 11:30 am with her cousin Rev. John D. Meck. officiating, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Community Bible Church, 234 Old Leacock Road, Gordonville, PA 17529. Private interment in the adjoining cemetery will be officiated by Rev. Gregory E. Distad.
In lieu of flowers. Kindly consider a contribution in Lois’s memory to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, 205 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101.

Larry we are so sorry for your loss it was an honor to have known Lois we met her through Ephrata Manor as our parents were there also. Lois always greeted us with a smile and was so pleasant to talk to there were days where our visit with our parents wasn’t so good because they were so ill and it was hard to see them like that and Lois would always cheer us up and say something to make us feel better what a special Lady she was and she will be sadly missed

Thoughts and prayers for Larry, Bryan and family. Lois was the sweetest lady. Always had a smile and would help and be there for anyone. I loved my time working with her and helping raise money for CMN with her. ❤️

Larry and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Lois will be missed by many. I work at Ephrata Manor so I had the privilege to care for her. I worked on 3-11 and now I’m on 11-7 so her aide and I would help Lois in the morning getting her ready for her day. I can’t tell you what wonderful memories I have of us three. We would laugh and joke around. Talk about her days of nursing. Such special times. She would have us laughing so hard sometimes. I miss her so much as I’m sure you do. Comfort comes in knowing that such a special lady is now home with our lord and savior. She will will be watching over us making sure we do our job as care takers to best of our ability. My thoughts and prayers are with you all in these tough days ahead. Love! Wanda Hall

My mom is in the Ephrata Manor Nursing Home on the 2nd floor. When I visited her, I almost always saw Lois in her wheelchair on the first floor. We always waved and smiled and had a quick greeting. One time I was in and out in a matter of minutes and said that my mom was sound asleep and I couldn’t rouse her to visit. She laughed and said, yep that happens to us in here! I will miss her smiling face when I visit from now on.
