Lori Souder, 48

December 02, 2022

Lori Souder of Millersville passed away suddenly on December 2, 2022. She was the cherished daughter of John and Carol Souder of Collegeville, PA.

Lori was a caring, loving, and compassionate friend. She loved simply being with others, enjoyed playing games with friends & family, relaxing on Sundays, watching the Phillies, Eagles and Food Network, long car rides as the passenger, loved music especially attending concerts, trips to Atlantic City, and Friday night calls with her cousin Suz.

Lori earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Millersville University in 1996. She excelled in softball at Millersville and Perkiomen Valley High School. She later went on to coach at the collegiate and high school levels. Lori was thrilled to return to Millersville University as the Coordinator of Occupancy Management in the Department of University Housing & Conference Services.

Lori served in many other positions across the University and was very involved in the LGBTQ community as a chair of the President’s Commission on Gender and Sexual Diversity and as an advisor to the LGBTQ+ & Allies Living Learning Community. Lori’s leadership combined with her dry sense of humor has left a lasting legacy with all who knew her, especially those who had the privilege to work with her.

In addition to her parents, Lori is survived by her sister Lisa Sommer (Richard) and her godson/nephew, Ethan Sommer; her beloved partner Jen Strausser and their cat, Covi; her uncle, Richard Ziegler (Sonja); her cousins Allison Goldfarb (David, children Kate & Jonah) and Susan Salkeld. She leaves behind extended family, friends, and the Millersville University Community.

A Celebration of Life for Lori Souder will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Millersville University in the Bolger Conference Center located in Gordinier Hall.

Kindly consider contributions in Lori’s memory to The President’s Commission on Gender & Sexual Diversity. Millersville University c/o Development Office, P.O. Box 1002, Millersville, PA 17551 or at www.millersville.edu/give2mu.

I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful girl.  I will always remember Lori as a little girl who taught me so much.  She helped me understand LGBT.  For that I will always be thankful.  She made me a better person.  She touched many lives.  I can’t begin to imagine what the loss of a daughter is but I hope you know how we are all praying for you and John..

I am sooooo sorry for your loss!  Never expected to lose someone so young! I’m so happy God put me in your path 🙏! Till I see you again my friend!

When I think of Lori I see a warm, smiling face sitting across the Thanksgiving table from me. These days many are missing from that same table.  I’m certain Lori is with them all.  We will see them all again and experience that warm, dry wit of Lori.  God bless Lori.  God bless John and Carol.

Lori is in the arms of an angel now. The obituary is a testament to the impact Lori had on the lives of so many. My memories of Lori go back 30 some years ago. I will always treasure those memories. Lori was special to so many. My heart goes out to our dearest friends, Jogn and Carol. Words cannot mend your hearts but know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.  Judy and Don
