Lucy Welk Ames, 96

August 12, 1927 - September 23, 2023

Lucy Welk Ames, 96, formerly of Leaman Place, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Neffsville Nursing & Rehabilitation. Her husband Edwin Leon Ames died in 1989.

Born in Millersville, Lucy was the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Kathryn (Munson) Welk. She graduated from East Lampeter High School, and worked as an inspector for Schick Electric, Lancaster, and Vallorb’s Jewel Co, Bird-In-Hand. She was also a homemaker and babysitter.

Lucy was a member of Leacock Presbyterian Church, where she was previously active in the Crossroads Sunday School Class. She had also been involved in the Mary Ferree Society and Girl Scouts. Lucy enjoyed playing the piano and sewing.

Lucy is survived by her daughter Cynthia L., wife of Ronald A. Weaver of Murrysville, her son E. Michael Ames, husband of Donna Grason of Strasburg; four grandchildren, Todd M. Weaver, Stacey M. wife of Mark Wagner, Corey R. Ames, and Matthew J. Ames, husband of Jaimie (Stratmyer); four great-grandchildren, Isabella M. Ames, Ellyanna Ames, Frank Wagner, and Broderick Ames; daughter-in-law JoAnn Snyder Ames; and her sisters, Joan M. Kohler and Nancy L. Maysellis. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucy was preceded in death by her son, Joseph R. “Randy” Ames in 2021; and her siblings, John M. Welk, Sara Jane Trahanovsky, Harry B. Welk, Kathryn M. Newcomer, Dolores V. Byers, and Joyce Kay Peters.

A memorial service will take place 11 am Friday, October 6, 2023, at Leacock Presbyterian Church. Lucy’s Family will receive guests from 10 to 11 am. Interment will follow in Paradise Presbyterian Cemetery.
