Luis “Cheez” A. Ortiz Jr.
February 26, 2020
Luis “Cheez” A. Ortiz Jr., 45, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on the evening of February 26, 2020. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Luis A. Ortiz Sr. Of Lancaster and Sue Ann Aponte-Ortiz of Pittsburgh.
Many knew Luis for his 24 years as the shop manager for the Manheim Auto Auction. Anyone that knew Cheez, knew that his family came before everything. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, wrestling, traveling, and cheering for the San Francisco 49ers. He will also be remembered for his selfless acts. Every Christmas he would sponsor a family in need and dress up as Santa Claus to hand out toys. He did not do it for the recognition, he did it just to see the children’s faces light up and smile. When Luis walked into a room, he was the life of the party. His best qualities were his smile and upbeat personality. If you didn’t know him, by the end of the night you were friends. He touched countless lives throughout the years.
Luis’s spirit and love will live on through his fiancé, Luz “Lulu” Velazquez; the mother of his children, Katie Ortiz; daughter, Katelynne Ortiz, wife of Sylvia Ramos; sons, Michael Ortiz Sr., partner of Melissa Rivera and Jordan Ortiz, fiancé of Kylee Caroll; stepdaughter, Bryana Velazquez, partner of Eric Tirado; grandsons, Michael Jr., Jaidan, Antonio, and Carter; granddaughter, Avianna; brothers, Jose Ortiz, husband of Christine, Victor Ortiz, fiancé of Amarilis, and Anthony Ortiz, husband of Melissa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, and an abundance of friends.
A celebration of Luis’ life will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 4 PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Friends and family will be received from 3-4PM.

Condolences to the Ortiz family. Cheez was more then just a friend. He was a protector, father, husband, leader, brother, uncle, a man of men. We grew up together. The 7th ward. His mother and I were in school together. His smile was so contagious. He will be missed and never forgotten. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren. I feel blessed that God gave me the opportunity to know him and to love him.
You will be forever in our hearts Cheez
