September 19, 2016
Margaret “Peg” Herr, age 82 of Lititz passed away peacefully at Lancaster General Hospital on Monday afternoon, September 19, 2016 from a head injury from a fall. Her passing was as peaceful as her long life was beautiful.
Born Margaret Eileen Risser in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Ruth A. (Weaver) and Carl B. Risser of Lititz. A life-long Lititz resident, she was a 1951 graduate of Lititz High School. “Peg” was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Lititz, where as a youth she enjoyed singing in the choir and later volunteered with the Ladies of St. Paul Lutheran, preparing food for social gatherings. For 35 years she managed the cafeteria at the Warwick Middle School. More recently, she attended the Women’s Bible Study group at Middle Creek Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed family fishing and camping trips in Canada, family snowmobiling trips to Maine, Michigan and the last was to Yellowstone. She loved gardening, more important flowers, going to public auctions and collecting antiques and road trips anywhere. Her travels took her to most of the United States, all the provinces of Canada, Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia and the islands of the Caribbean. She loved perusing mail order catalogs and shopping. She cared deeply about family, most importantly her husband and their two Schnauzer’s.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mel celebrating 63 years of marriage and their two children, Michael L. Herr of Lititz and wife Debbie (Splain) and Karen E. Shaub of Lititz and husband, Denny. Three grandchildren Jonathan M. Herr, Christopher M. Shaub and Alexander M. Shaub and three great-grandchildren Peiyton Shaub and twins, Miranda and Trisha Herr. Peg is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law Audrey Cochran (Robert), and Sue Stauffer (James) all of Lititz, PA and Bruce Pinkerton of Newark, Delaware and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother C. William Risser and Jane R. Pinkerton.
Peg will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate, thoughtful and giving person. She had a big heart and a pleasant personality that made her many friends who thought highly of her. She was a loving wife, comforting and supportive mother and a gentle, kind grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
