Maria Kesoglou, 71

December 24, 2024

Maria Kesoglou, 71, of Lititz, passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024 at Moravian Manor surrounded by her family. She was born on the island of Chios, Greece in 1953. She immigrated to the United States in 1969 with her family.

Maria was the co-owner of the Land and Sea Restaurant on Lincoln Highway, Route 30 for 18 years. She continued to work with her brother Gus at Gus’s Keystone Family Restaurant in Mount Joy until she retired.

Maria was a people person. She loved entertaining customers and became very close to many of them. To this day, many customers still look and ask for her and tell stories about her witty personality.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eleni Kourgelis and her only two daughters Eleni and Ploumi. She is survived by her brother, Gus Kourgelis husband of Eleni, and sister Irene Varias.
Maria enjoyed the company of her nieces and nephews, as well as their children.

We would like to extend our gratitude to her closest friends Gene Phillips, and Laura and Kirk Miller who spent a tremendous amount of time with her while she was homebound for the last couple years.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 9:00am-10:30am with a Funeral Service at 10:30am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 64 Hershey Ave. Lancaster, PA 17603 with Fr. Hector Firoglanis and Fr. Savvas Mandeville officiating. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.

We thank the wonderful staff of Moravian Manor and Hospice & Community Care for the services they provided to Maria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or Hospice & Community Care 685 Good Dr. Lancaster, PA 17601.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Maria was always a spitfire and fun to be around. I’ll miss and always remember her dry sense of humor and bluntness that always made Gene & I laugh. She truly will be missed and I’m lucky to have gotten to know her. May she rest in peace alongside Ploumi and Eleni.
