Marian H. Simes
Marian H. Simes, age 94, formerly of Christiana and longtime resident of Willow Valley Communities, died on Saturday, April 20, 2019. She was the widow of Pierce Vernon Simes, who passed away in 1993.
Born at home in Georgetown, Bart Township, on March 19, 1925, she was daughter of the late John Benjamin Haubert and Mary Alta (Munson) Haubert.
Marian attended the Atglen Public Schools and graduated from S. Horace Scott High
School in Coatesville in 1943. After graduation, she was employed by the Coatesville Hospital as secretary to the Hospital Superintendent. Her second and final employer was Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville where she retired as an executive secretary.
After retirement she served as a Deacon in the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church
in Atglen, volunteered with Meals-On-Wheels, Christiana, and was a prolific contributor to Project Linus. Even with diminished eyesight, she continued to crochet afghans for children in need.
She is survived by daughter, Patricia S. wife of C. Scott Cargill of Niceville, FL, grandchildren: John C. Cargill and wife Jennifer of Prattville, AL and Amanda L. Cargill of Atlanta, GA, and her great-grandchildren: Rachel, Luke and Margaret. She also leaves behind four nieces and one nephew. Marian was predeceased by her brother, John B. Haubert, Jr.
She requested a private family funeral with The Reverend Craig Wiley officiating. Interment will be in Longeneckers Reformed Mennonite Cemetery.
