Martha J. Xakellis, 84
July 20, 2024
Martha Jeanne (Myers) Xakellis, 84, of Lititz, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 20, 2024, with family by her side. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late David Jerome and Eva Mae (Behmer) Myers. Better known as Martee, she married Gregory James Xakellis on Valentine’s Day in 1976, and remained his loving wife for 48 years.
Martee worked alongside Greg for the National Hot Rod Association for more than 20 years as Division Secretary for the Northeast Division, and she was a familiar face at the track in the registration trailer. She was also a membership secretary for the Lancaster County Historical Society for a little over a decade, and then spent 23 years working at the Lititz Public Library as an Administrative Assistant to the Director. She was deeply involved in genealogy and research, and was the author of the Grave Undertakings series, cataloging the graves of many cemeteries in Lancaster County and providing insights and history to the various sites. Some of her favorite hobbies were knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and she was a talented artist.
Surviving in addition to her devoted husband Gregory, are two sons: Michael D. (Jackie) Reed of Bedford, and David A. (Cheryl) Reed of Ephrata, four grandchildren: Tabitha R. (Rob Perticari Sr.) Klugh of West Berlin, NJ; Zachary M. (Beth) Reed of Ephrata; Michelle L. Reed of Manheim; and Jennifer (Quin) Koehler-Miroux of Atlanta, GA, and seven great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Sophia, Robert Jr, Dominic, Haylee, Tenley, and Tyler.
Services will be held Monday, July 29, 2024, at Spacht-Snyder Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 127 South Broad Street, Lititz. Viewing and visitation with the family will be at 9am, with service starting at 10am. Following services, interment will be held at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery of Kissel Hill, 26 Owl Hill Road, Lititz. The family is requesting that people dress casually, as that was Martee’s style. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Martee’s honor and memory may be made to the Lititz Public Library or Hospice & Community Care.

Too Martee’s Family,
Sorry for your loss .
I meet Martee through the library genealogy club she started years ago. I am greatful for all the research she has done and all the local history that she knew. I use her books Grave Undertakings all the time.
She was one great Lady! She will be missed by a lot of people.

She was a strong, fantastic lady. Super intelligent, quick witted, wise, creative, encouraging,… always kind and loving. Aunt Martee lived a full life, with her loving husband, family, friends (who became family), and rewarding, enjoyable work. She gave all of us wonderful memories. EVERYone loved her, and she loved EVERY one. She helped us find our light when in darkness, and taught us to recognize that if we don’t see our cups as “full”, to search a way to fill them. We all miss her so very much already, and treasure our special memories of her. Aunt Martee’s light will shine on, through each of us who were blessed to have known her.
