Martin C. Von Stetten Jr., 77
October 22, 2024
Martin C. Von Stetten Jr., 77, of Columbia passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Martin C. Sr. and Clara Mae Fisher Von Stetten. He was the loving husband of Rebecca Brown Von Stetten and they celebrated 52 years of marriage this past February. Martin put his family above all else and never failed to make it to every sporting event for his children and grandkids. He liked the New York Yankees, Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Flyers Fan but was overall a sports enthusiast. Sunday cookouts are a time his family will forever cherish. If you ever asked if he was grilling the answer was always “it’s Sunday ain’t it”. There was always plenty of food and love.
He had a general fondness for music. He really did love listening to music and would often pull up in the car with music blasting and singing along. Sometimes it was embarrassing but now it’s a fond memory.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Rebecca, are five children, Alegra E. wife of Christopher Grove, Martin C. Von Stetten III, Aisha S. Mowrer, Austin R. Von Stetten, Rory M. Von Stetten, and 7 grandchildren, Gabriel, Cleo, Emma, Bennett, Braden, Aiden, Myla and 4 siblings, Roy, Donna, Deborah, and Ed. Preceding him in death are 3 siblings, Martha, Karen and John.
At Martin’s request there will be no services.

Becky and family, I am so sorry to hear about Martin. I only just heard about it today, from my brother-in-law, Vinnie Rineer. Martin was a friend back in the ’60’s and a great guy. I still remember and share the fun times we had so many years ago. My best memory was the night when he dared me to get out of Lee’ Splain’s car and jump on the back of the tractor trailer load of chickens that was stopped in front of us at Bob’d Diner! He said, “Hey Rat, I dare ya to ride that load of chickens up to the Park!”. So, I did but we got a green light and I couldn’t jump off. The guys followed me in Lee’s car over to 3rd & Chestnut Street so I wouldn’t have to walk all the way back to the Park. But we got another green light!!! To make a long story short, they followed that chicken truck all the way to the York Shopping center before it slowed down enough for me to jump off!! We laughed about that night for a LONG time!! He would always sing along with every song that would come on the radio even if he didn’t know the words!! 😀 He will be missed and will be remembered always! Please accept my sincerest condolences. May God bless you all.

Becky and family, I am deeply sorry to hear about the passing of Martin.
He was a true friend, and a great guy.
I still reminisce about the fun times we had so many years ago. And I’ll never forget him calling me late the night before I left for Parris Island to wish me the best – that’s what you call a friend. There’s just not enough Martin Von Stettens to go around. He will be missed.
Please accept my sincerest condolences. May God bless you all.
