Mary “Chubby” Pinkney, 76

April 18, 2025

Mary “Chubby” Pinkney, 76, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on February 8, 1949, in Chester County, PA, she was the cherished daughter of Mary Bowman and the late Earnest Brison.

Chubby was the heart of her family—a selfless, strong, and loving woman whose warmth touched everyone she met. She was the proud mother of two sons, Tracy Allen Bowman and Micheal Bowman, and was married to the late Donnell Pinkney, with whom she shared a life full of love and family.

A lifelong resident of Lancaster, Chubby dedicated over 45 years to volunteering at Bright Side Church, where her faith and compassion for others left a lasting impact. She found joy in the simple things—playing bingo, crocheting blankets for loved ones, cooking soulful meals, and helping anyone in need. She especially loved pampering herself with fresh hairstyles and enjoying her favorite seafood, particularly blue crabs.

Chubby was preceded in death by her sister Judy Marshall and brother Terry Bowman, she is survived by her sisters Karen Cobb and Nancy Williams, and her Brother Steven Bowman; along with her nine beloved grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless others who were blessed to call her family.

Mary “Chubby” Pinkney was more than just a mother and grandmother—she was the matriarch of our family, the one who held us together with love, strength, and unwavering grace. Her presence will be missed beyond words, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

A going home celebration will be held on Saturday the 26 of April 2025, at Brightside Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603, at 1pm. A viewing will take place prior to service from 11-1pm.
