Mary E. Ames, 92

Mary E. Ames, 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Mennonite Home while surrounded by family.
She was the wife of the late Charles “Budd” S. Ames, who passed away in 2010. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Pauline (Sheridan) Gable.
Mary had worked in the Treasurer’s Office at the Lancaster County Court House for 13 years. Prior to this, she had worked for several years at Garvins Dept. Store.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster.
Mary enjoyed traveling, gardening, and was an active volunteer at Lancaster Regional Medical Center and at the former Community Hospital of Lancaster. She was a member of the Lancaster County Shrine Club Oriental Band-Ayds, Silver Threads, and Guys and Dolls. Of all she enjoyed in life, her greatest love was that of her late husband and her family.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Ann married to Keith Perry of Millersville and Charles “Chip” S. II married to Jo Ellen Ames of Mount Joy; her 4 grandchildren Brittany and Hilary Ames, and Christopher and Amy Perry and by her beloved nieces Kathy Fought and Nancy Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her great grandchild Christopher Perry and her sister Dorothy Fought.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Swarr Run at the Mennonite Home for the great love and care that was given to Mary.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Mary’s memory to Hospice and Community Care , 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Mary was quite a lady. I always enjoyed her laughter and excitement at our annual shows at the Mennonite Home. We will miss her joyfulness.

To Chip and family, We were sorry to read of your Mother’s death and and also of your Father’s death in 2010. We knew your family for a long time and you knew our children. We lived in the same neighborhood for 47 yrs and our children attended the neighborhood school close to our home. We now live in a retirement home. Our Sympathy and prayers. She was always an extremely nice and genuine person and I always enjoyed talking with her. She had a very upbeat personality and loved to laugh. I was sorry that I could not make it to the funeral and am sorry for everyone’s loss. She will be missed – Elliot
