Mary Grace Dougherty, 94
Mary Grace Dougherty, 94, formerly of Fourth St. in Lancaster, passed away on Saturday evening, November 14, 2009 at her residence in Fairfax, VA.
A long-time resident of Lancaster, she was the wife of the late Thomas M. Dougherty, who passed away in 1978. Born in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Margherita Sperandio Tamanini.
Mary had been a registered nurse, working for twenty years at St. Joseph Hospital, until her retirement in 1982. She had also practiced nursing in the Philadelphia area for many years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was an active member in the Legion of Mary. She also enjoyed music, reading, and the opera.
Mary is survived by her children: Margherita McMullen of Nottingham, Maryland; Kathleen, married to Leslie Lenkowsky of Bloomington, Indiana; Frances, married to Dr. Mitchell Stevens of White Plains, New York; Cecelia Dougherty of Brooklyn, New York; and Thomas, married to Marsha Dougherty of Reston, Virginia. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and her one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Dougherty.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a recitation of the Holy Rosary on Wednesday at 4PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603, with the Rev. Joseph Hilbert as Celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Mary’s memory to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dear Cecil and family,
Please accept my sincere sympathy upon the death of your Mother. I don’t know whether you remember this, but your Mother and my Mother worked together at St. Joe’s for many years. They were two of the "great old-time nurses."
Haven’t seen you since our CF get-together years ago. Hope you are doing well, otherwise.
