Mary M. Arvanitis, 100, of Lancaster, died Thursday, March 22, 2018 at ManorCare. Born in Lancaster, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Christina (Nichalou) Mastros immigrants from the island of Kos, Greece. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Arvanitis, to whom she was married on May 1st, 1937.
Mary was a 1935 graduate of J.P McCaskey High School.
She worked for the US Government during World War II. She also worked as a teller for Peoples Bank, and later worked with her husband at their restaurant, Central Restaurant, Newport, RI. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at Lancaster Catholic High School.
Mary was the oldest living member of the Lancaster Greek community. She was a devoted member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, James, George, Chris Mastros and three sisters, Catherine Pavlides, Sophie Vekios, and Sadie Hosan. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, and a brother in law, Valentine Hosan and sister in law, Nancy Mastros.
Funeral Services will take place on Monday, March 26th, 2018 at 10:30AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA. Viewing will be held 9:30AM-10:30AM at the church. Interment will take place in Riverview Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
