March 05, 2024
Mary T. Horton, 88, of Lititz, PA, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Brethren Village Retirement Community.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Mary was the daughter of the late Anne (Williams) and James J. Kane. She was the beloved wife of the late Murray R. Horton, who passed away in 2018.
Mary dedicated her professional life to service, working as the Director of Admissions at Maple Farms and Lancashire Hall prior to her retirement. She also enjoyed many years of part- time employment at Joyce Gibble Gifts. She was a devoted member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, a licensed notary and long time member of the Towne Club. Highlighting her commitment to community service was her founding membership with the Manheim Township Ambulance Association.
In her leisure time, Mary found joy in various activities. She and her husband, Murray, loved to dance and found particular delight in polka dancing. They belonged to numerous polka dance clubs. Mary considered her pool her happy place and enjoyed spending time swimming. She cherished her time with family at the beach, especially to Wildwood, NJ, where she and Murray had vacationed since the beginning of their marriage. Mary had a fondness for gardening and took pride in her geranium gardens and hanging baskets.
Mary is survived by her loving children: Sharon Walker, wife of C. Thomas Walker, Jr.; Marie Killian, wife of Richard R. Killian of Lancaster; and Karen Sipkov, wife of Philip J. Sipkov of North Carolina. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved kitty, Cruiser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow with burial at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church or the Manheim Township Ambulance Association, 1820 Municipal Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601. Mary’s legacy of service, love, and dedication to her family and community will be cherished by all who knew her.

I was so glad to have gotten to know your Mother and her family. What a blessing to have been able to know Mary and get to know her daughters who were good enough to come and see me too. I will miss her terribly but we all know she is at peace and not suffering any more. You have my sympathy and know she is at peace and with her husband. I will always remember our walks up the hall and the cheering session she had with her. Shows how much she was loved cause not everyone had that! If you ever have time to come here you are always welcome to come see me. Again I am sending my love and sympathy.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Mary for 12 years at Lancashire Hall. She was always very nice to me and was very kind when working with families admitting their loved ones to the facility. I have a lot of fond memories working with her. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sharon and Tom, and all your family, I am so sorry to read that Mary has died. She was a lovely woman, always friendly and kind when we talked. Her obituary tells of some very worthwhile activities on her part—I wish I had known her better when we were both active. I saw her now and then “across a room” at Brethren Village, where I live now too, we were in different buildings so always difficult to get together. You must have been very proud of her. She and your dad have left a wonderful legacy in all of you. Sing her praises! I send you my very deepest sympathy for your heartbreak. Peggy Frailey
