Matthew Spence Hellmann, 33
February 24, 2022
Matthew Spence Hellmann, 33, died unexpectedly at home from an aneurysm, Thursday, February 24, 2022. Born April 6, 1988, in Hershey, he was the son of Michael G. and Lynne E. (Spence) Hellmann. A twin, he was 58 minutes older than his brother, Zachary.
A 2006 graduate from Hempfield High School, Matt went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations at Millersville University in 2013.
An avid Miami Dolphins fan, the only thing he loved more than his Dolphins was his niece and best buddy, Rylee and his nephew, Mason. He was a self-admitted “Mama’s Boy” and Mama will be broken hearted until she leaves this earth.
Matt and Zach were inseparable and shared most of the same friends since high school. Matt was known for his big heart and sense of loyalty. Matt and Zach enjoyed traveling together, taking trips to Ocean City annually with the family, and going on camping trips to Knoebels and Jellystone Park.Matt thoroughly enjoyed the annual Hellmann Birthday Boli Celebration, and he knew where to find all the wing specials in Lancaster. Matt prided himself on being able to eat the hottest wings.
The sun won’t shine as brightly this summer and his laugh won’t be heard, but he will be with us in spirit and all those country songs that he loved to listen to will be that much sadder now.
Matt was preceded in death by his brothers Andrew and Patrick.
Services remembering Matt’s life will be held at 11AM, Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 9AM to 11AM at the funeral home. Matt will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill Memorial Garden, Columbia. Matt is going to be dressed comfortably and the family requests that those attending his services dress comfortably as well. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matt’s honor may be made to the Dravet Foundation or any other children’s charity of ones choosing.

To Matt’s family. I am a neighbor to Matt living two doors down. Although we did not know each other very well I spoke to Matt every once in awhile in passing and we always had great conversation about life, the beach, family the weather or just saying hi. I know Matt was often on his way to go spend time with his mom whom I know he loved very very much. Matt kept to himself but I know I entertained him when he was sitting on his deck and my two goofy dogs were running and playing out back. I send my deepest sympathy and condolences to Matt’s family and friends. Very very heartbreaking.

Matty was one of the sweetest and most genuine guys I’ve known. We shared so many memories together from our first jobs at Subway to trivia nights at Hot Z, Marion Court summer evenings and Limearita summer days, to him winning the title of eating the hottest wings at Buffalo Wild Wings and everything in between. More than just how much fun we always had, I felt privledged to know a side of him that was gentle and caring. He was always there for me and all of his friends and never asked for anything in return. I am grateful and lucky to have had so many great memories with him and am going to miss that selfless and goofy guy so much. My heart aches for his mom, Lynne- I know how much he loved her and how close they were. And Zach- sending you so much love as you navigate this next chapter of life. The whole Hellmann family has been and will continue to be in my prayers and I wish for you comfort and strength on the days ahead. Sending you all of my love.

I worked with Hellman at the Nook and loved when he was on event set up, he was always ready to help and had the passion to serve others. Hellman would organize the crew for post work beers and wings at Beanies in Mount Joy, no doubt one of his favorite spots and those are really great memories for all of us. Sending love and prayers to his family. Love, Marissa Goss

My condolences are with the family…the world lost a good one. Many fond memories from back in high school days when we would all be hanging out in the basement laughing…”collecting” garden gnomes and melting pizzas in the oven because we forgot the pan! It’s been awhile but I’ll always remember you and never forget you bud!
