Maurice Whiting, 96

Maurice Whiting, 96, of Lititz, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Born in Phillipsburg, NJ on March 28, 1921, he was raised in Easton, PA. Maurice was the son of the late Rose and Maxwell Weitzenhoffer.
Maurice enlisted in the Army during WWII and served in an Engineer Co. that made pontoon bridges in Europe. After the war he earned an Accounting degree at Rider College on the GI bill. Maurice then married Irene, began a family and worked as a field agent with the IRS for 33 years. He was a long time member of the Lititz Rec Center, the American Legion and served as the Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 83. Maurice enjoyed investing, tennis, camping, swimming, bowling, and checkers.
Maurice is survived by his children: Kenneth Whiting(Loretta) of Windsor, CT; Ronald Whiting(Rhonda) of Lititz, PA; Richard Whiting(Deborah) of Elizabethtown, PA; and Diane King, of Williamsport, PA. He also has a brother, David Whiting(NJ) in FL. Maurice also has 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Maurice was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Irene (Uminski)Whiting and his son-in-law L. Daniel King, and 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Ranck Ave. and Ranck Rd., Lancaster, PA 17602 at 1 PM with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., PO Box 4125, Lanc. PA 17604.
