Michael R. Bowers, 83
March 02, 2024
Michael R. Bowers, 83, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at his residence. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Phoebe (Burkheimer) Bowers. He was the husband of Kathleen T. Bowers.
After serving in the Navy, Mike embarked on a successful career leading the sales organizations for both Krown and Kountry Kraft Kitchen, culminating his career as Vice President of sales for St. Charles and partner of Bowers & Lobeck Inc. He dedicated his entire career to the kitchen and bath business, serving as President of the local chapter of the NKBA, and was one of the first professionals to earn the designation as a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD).
A devout Catholic, Mike was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he served as head usher at the 10:30 mass, where his joyous welcome is missed by many on Sunday mornings.
Mike willingly shared his joy for life with his family and friends. He brought his winning attitude to every endeavor from coaching championship baseball teams to competing and succeeding in various sports, from snowmobile racing to golf and tennis. He gave his all. His love for sports led him to officiate tennis. His quick judgement, technical knowledge, and integrity resulted in him being selected to officiate at the US Open.
Mike had the same love for his grandchildren’s activities, showing the same enthusiasm whether it was a T-ball game or a state championship. His zest for life was contagious and resulted in many lifelong friends who stood by his side during his long illness and visited him often until his final days.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his son, Michael Bowers; his daughter, Stacey (George) Hock; his step-children, Mark (Jane) Lobeck and Regina Crawford, partner of Joe Adams; his brother, David Bowers; 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Bowers.
Kathy and family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the hospice and the nursing homes that cared for Mike.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 10AM to 11AM at Sacred Heart Church, 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17603. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mikes name to Sacred Heart School, 235 Nevin St., Lancaster, PA 17603.

Kathy and family,
I didn’t know Michael prior to his illness, yet still got to witness his contagious smile and funny personality. Kathy, you were his guiding angel over these last several years as Mike’s health declined. Bringing him home for his final days was a loving and courageous decision. Your love and care for him was outstanding. Rejoicing that Michael is free from his trapped body, and now dancing with Jesus. Praying for you and your family my friend.

Dear Kathy and Bowers family, I have very fond memories of Mike dating back to the Krown days and more recently, when he (via Bowers and Lobeck) spec’d and supplied the kitchenette cabinets for our basement renovation back in the early 2000’s. Just last week, when going thru some extra trim pieces in my basement, I found a note to me from Mike attached to one of those trim pieces. He was always such a pleasant and upbeat person and I’ll always reflect fondly on the many decades of having had the pleasure of knowing him. May the memory of Michael Bowers be for a blessing.

Kathy,
You and your families are in our prayers, as you have been all along. We feel honored to have known Mike, as part of our family and cannot say enough about his positive attitude and how he made all of us also feel that he was truly interested and cared about our lives. Thank you for sharing your dear husband with all of us and as you get used to a new normal, we wish a peaceful rest for Mike for all eternity.
