Miles E. Delemos, 94, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. He was the husband of Georgie M. Delemos to whom he was married for 66 years. Born in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, he was the son of the late Reverend Halvor A. Delemos and Lilla E. Delemos.
At the age of 22 Miles came to the mainland for aviation training. During WWII, he served in the US Navy as an aviation mechanic. After the war, he earned his commercial pilot’s license, operated an air freight service in Central America and worked as a flight instructor. He was also employed as a civilian aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL where he met Georgie.
Miles and Georgie married, and in 1959 moved to New Jersey with their first three children. He was also a part-time instructor in several vocation and technical schools in New Jersey, teaching air conditioning and refrigeration. Miles served as a deacon at Roseville Presbyterian Church, Newark, NJ.
An avid reader and lifetime learner, Miles moved to Pennsylvania in retirement and earned a BA in English, graduating cum laude from Millersville University at the age of 74. Thereafter, he was a substitute teacher in the Lancaster County schools.
One of his favorite pastimes was walking in the sunshine while donning his signature hat. Never without a pen, Miles enjoyed writing poems and quips. He will always be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit and sense of humor.
Miles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. My Condolences to the Delemos family.
Miles was great, when I got out of trade school in 1981 I got my first real job at Tenney Engineering. The first thing they did was put me with Miles for a couple of months of training. I learned a lot from him and built a long successful carrer on what I learned from him. All the years since I still think of him and will even tell the younger guys under me how I was mentoerd by a gentleman named Miles Delemos. Thank you Miles and God bless you all. Nick Tepfenhart Sr

After reading Mr. Delemos’ obituary it is evident he enjoyed a well-lived life. It’s been said that the value of a man’s life can be noted by the quality of the fruit upon one’s tree. I believe that axiom to be true and evident … as many from St. Croix, NJ, PA and all parts in between have eaten the fruit from Mr. Delemos’ tree and have been enlightened by the experience.
While we never had the pleasure to meet Mr. Delemos, we have enjoyed meeting his family and hearing of his positive impact on everyone he encountered..
Our prayers are added to the multitude of others that are praying for the Delemos family’s strength and comfort during these difficult days. Take comfort in knowing that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all and through it all, that HE is still in control.
God Bless you.
