Miriam “Mim” Rutt Hess, 91

June 25, 1933 - July 02, 2024

Miriam “Mim” Rutt Hess, 91, a longtime resident at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, PA died on July 2, 2024, after a lingering illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Longenecker Rutt and Mary Franck Brubaker Rutt, her husband, Elvin S. Hess; her sisters Arlene B Esbenshade and Martha B. Garber; brothers Edwin B. Rutt, Frank B. Rutt, Harold B. Rutt, Norman B. Rutt, and Leroy B. Rutt. Surviving is a sister, Esther E. Rutt, as well as 30 nieces and nephews who fondly called her “Aunt Mim”.

Mim was born June 25, 1933, in Elizabethtown, PA. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1951. Immediately after graduation she worked as a teller at First National Bank & Trust Co. of Elizabethtown for 17 years, after which she served as a purchasing agent at Elizabethtown Home for Children and Youth for 20 years. Mim retired from the PA Department of Health in Harrisburg as a purchasing agent in October 1991.

After retirement, she and her late husband, Elvin, enjoyed cruising and traveling, visiting many parts of the United States and Alaska, Europe, and Russia. Having no children of their own, they were fond of regularly visiting their nieces and nephews, often gifting them with souvenirs from their travels. They traditionally entertained large family gatherings in their home each December, an event all family members faithfully marked on their calendars! Mim had a great love for organ music and continued to study the art of playing her personal organ until the onset of her illness. A request to play the organ would readily bring a smile to her face and a willing performance of her latest accomplishments.

She was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church. A private graveside service will be held to celebrate Mim’s life. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations in Mim’s honor may be directed to Pleasant View Benevolent Care Fund, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545
