Myles Thomas McGahren, 3
Myles Thomas McGahren, age 3, passed away on Wednesday, November 25th, in the peace of his home in Manheim Township surrounded by his family and under the loving care of Bayada Nurses and Hospice of Lancaster County.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Grace United Church of Christ, 1947 New Holland Pike, Lancaster. (www. Gracechurchlancaster.org)
Myles , born May 15th, 2006 is survived by his parents, Lisa and Paul McGahren, his brother, Maxwell James, and his sister, Riley Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his identical twin, Luke Harrison, who died prenatally at 27 weeks of unknown causes.
Myles, inflicted with a severe brain trauma due to the prenatal passing of his identical twin, was not expected to survive beyond his delivery. To the surprise and astonishment of the many he touched, he thrived during his short and beautiful life and earned the appropriate nickname “Myghty Myles.” In his brief time on earth, he brought unconditional love, joy, and comfort to his family, his caregivers, and all those who met him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Lancaster General Health Foundation” and the newly established Myles McGahren NICU Fund. Please write in the memo line of the check “NICU Fund-Myles McGahren”. Donations may be sent to Lancaster General Health Foundation, 609 N. Cherry St., PO Box 3555, Lancaster, PA 17604-3555. Any cash gift should have a note enclosed specifying that the gift is for the NICU Fund in honor of Myles.

Dear Lisa and Paul and family,
I want to say how sorry I am for your loss of precious Myles. The loss of a child is life-changing. You will never return to "normal", but have to develope a "new normal". Grief brings a myriad of emotions. Men and women grieve differently, and there is no correct way or time line. Allow each member of your family to grieve in their own way and time. Support each other in this.
I want to make you aware of a Christian based support group for parents who are grieving the loss of a child. We are called "BASIS"= Brothers And Sisters In Support. We have a group that meets monthly in Akron, in a home of our Mission Director. We usually have a topical discussion, share our current walk in our grief journey, and then have refreshments and informal chat time.
Check us out on our website: www.hvmi.org, click on BASIS page. Thanks and I’ll be praying for you.
In Christian love, Marilyn Barto, Office Administrator of BASIS.
