Sorry to hear of Coach Norris’ passing. I last saw him a T.S.C.T. when he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Long overdue I might add. It was great to see him and I hoped to run into him again. He was the best pole vaulting and track coach. He taught me the intricacies of vaulting I never knew which enabled me set the Steven’s record. I also thoroughly enjoyed three years of old school drafting with Coach. I’ve since become proficient in computer aided drafting. In awe of how far drafting has come I often think back of using a T-square at his drafting tables and wonder if Coach ever got into CAD. By chance on Saturday March 21st I was with a Penn State graduate friend. When he started talking Penn State I mentioned how my pole vaulting Coach at Stevens was a Penn State graduate and that he, Ogier Norris, held the University’s record at that time. He immediately Googled it on his phone and that’s when I learned the sad news. Coach was a very fine man and I am proud to have known him and it was an honor to compete on his track team and learn in his classroom/auditorium. Please accept my condolences.

Ogie was a real treasure. I knew him mostly because of being involved with Willowood swim club but also knew about his musical tallents. I believe he sang tenor with our choir at E-town Church of the Brethren for a while. And his band work. Really significant. Ogie was always fun to work around and be with. He was good at coaching and if you worked on projects with him you always learned something. He taught as well as did. We were fortunate he and the family were part of our community.

I was honored to meet Mr Norris on multiple occasions throughout the past 20 plus years. Fishing trips, birthday parties and performing with his wife at Perkins Hospital. I remember him always smiling, laughing and fun to be around. Condolences to the entire family!
