Pastor Wallace Daniel “Dan” Harley, 82
April 22, 2024
Pastor Wallace Daniel “Dan” Harley, 82, of Lancaster, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy surrounded by his family.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Francis D. and Berniece Alene Gerhart Harley. Dan was the loving husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Klavoon Harley and they had just observed their 65th wedding anniversary this month. A Pastor, Dan served in ministry for over 45 years and was fondly referred to as “Pastor Dan.”
Dan graduated from West Seneca High School and began his career as a steamfitter in Buffalo New York, but felt called by the Lord to the ministry and in 1975 attended Liberty University and then began his pastoral ministry in Lancaster. He also pastored churches in Richmond, Virginia, Green Lane, Pennsylvania, Alden, New York, Nottingham, Pennsylvania and Clermont, Florida. Retiring to Lancaster County, Pastor Dan continued in his ministry leading a weekly Bible study at Westminster Place at Long Community Highland.
His desire was reaching those who did not know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved his church families dearly and compassionately and always felt it a privilege and a joy to pastor a flock.
Dan was always making people smile and when asked how he was doing, he would reply, “I’m Rejoicing!”
He received his greatest joy from his family, especially his wife of 65 years Elizabeth, who was by his side in marriage and the ministry. Dan showered his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his love and humor.
Surviving are three children; Eric Daniel husband of Kimberly Harley, Kevin Francis husband of Wendy Harley, Timothy husband of Silvia Harley; 10 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Sager, and two brothers; Scott F. husband of Amelia Harley, and Guy A. husband of June Harley. Preceding him in death was a son, Mark R. Harley.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dan’s memorial service on June 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Church (East entrance), 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 with a luncheon afterwards. No visitation beforehand. Those desiring may send memorial contributions in Dan’s memory to Hospice & Community Care, The E.E. Manny Murry Center, Mt. Joy, PA.

We regret finding out now of Brother Harley’s homegoing. First met him at the church in Manheim when coming into Lancaster to play softball. I installed fluorescent lights at a former school bldg. In Honeybrook after serving with Dan at First Baptist of Aston Pastor Mike Peper’s church. Then we lost touch with Pastor Dan and Betty. I just looked him up and found the Obit. Please accept sincere condolences to Betty and family, from my Wife Nancy and me, Ralph Hanby. I know we will either meet in the Rapture or in Heaven. What a Day that will be! His practical preaching of God’s word spoke volumes on how to surrender ourselves and live for Christ.

Dear Betty. I was saddened to hear of you and your family’s loss. I remember your family from attending Lancaster Baptist Temple 1981-1983. Pastor Dan was a great preacher. Following the closing of LBT I joined Brightside Baptist. In 2000 I took a part time job at Walmart, Lincoln Hwy where I still work Thur-Mon 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
May God’s peace be with you and your family.

Pastor Dan was one of my biggest joys. God had restored my wife and my marriage after nearly 10 years of divorce. God used him to pour into me as a rather new believer. On our anniversary he would reach out and wish us a happy anniversary. He never forgot the day. I was blessed to have served with him at The Crossing Church in Tampa. Ana and my prayers are with you Betty.

Dear Betty
Jean and I are praying for you and your family’s peace during this season.
Pastor Dan was such a blessing in my beginning walk in Jesus.
He brought such clarity to my walk and will forever be in my memories. A kind joyful man of God who impacted so many.
Betty, Jean and I will forever remember our fun memory over lunch as you began your journey to PA.
Forever in our memories and prayers.

Pastor Dan was a joy to serve with at FBC Aston back in the day. I was always encouraged and delighted to hear him say “I’m rejoicing” whenever someone asked how he was. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and to this day always encouraged me on social media, checking in to see how i was doing. He will be greatly missed.

I was taking a pivotal turn in my life and it just so happened It was Dan Harley’s first day at the Crossing in Tampa, Florida. We joked all the time about how I broke him in on his first day and his new job. My heart goes out to the family.

My prayers go out to this entire family. I loved Pastor Dan so much. He was an example for all of us to follow. Lord, you have brought home a great man and he did great things, one of them is me, emulating him as he emulated Christ. I will miss him dearly. Until we meet again my friend. Pastor Tony
