Ralph C. Herr II, 78
February 25, 2025
Ralph C. Herr, 78, of Lancaster, passed away on Feb. 25, 2025 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was married for 57 years to Patricia A. Wilson Herr. Born in Lancaster and raised on Cabbage Hill, he was the son of Helen M. Erb Herr and Ralph C. Herr I.
Ralph attended J.P. McCaskey High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 and serving in Vietnam. He received the honor of the Navy Unit Commendation (Vietnam).
In addition to his wife Patricia, Ralph is survived by his three children, Angela M. (Matthew J. Trout), Andrew J. Herr (Kristen), and Amy Jo (Kevin Gast); seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his sisters Suzanne Herr Wenger and Cynthia Herr Gibson.
In the 1980s, Ralph was employed by the City of Lancaster as a housing and building inspector. A talented and creative carpenter and woodworker, he was also employed by local construction companies, including Wohlsen Construction. One of his proudest professional achievements was woodworking on the Pennsylvania Capitol Rotunda, a testament to his skill and dedication to the craft, for which he received an honor from the State of Pennsylvania.
In retirement, Ralph’s passion for woodworking shined. His woodshop was a place of creativity and love, where he crafted customized projects for his family.
A lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan, he and his wife attended the World Series Parade in 2008 and was thrilled with the Eagles’ recent Super Bowl win. He enjoyed coaching his son’s little league Football team The Presidents and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting and school events.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents and a beloved aunt, Mary Erb Wesch.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project would be greatly appreciated in Ralph’s name. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
