Rebecca Ann McCarter, 92
January 21, 2025
Rebecca Ann McCarter, age 92 of Lititz, passed at her home with her family beside her on January 21, 2025. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was daughter of the late William and Agnes (Callaghan) Hart and the beloved wife of the late Charles McCarter.
Rebecca’s childhood was marked by resilience as she lived through the trials of World War II. Faced with the dangers of the bombings in her hometown, her family made the difficult decision to send her to Saddell Castle, a haven for evacuees. Growing up during the war and as one of 13 children, resources of all aspects proved to be hard to come by for Rebecca and her family. Not being able to buy chocolate, the sweet treat later became one of her favorite foods as an adult. Dolls were a treasure that were not known to her as a child but as an adult, she got the privilege of receiving her first doll on her 50thbirthday from her children.
At the age of 18, filled with hope for a better life for her, Rebecca’s parents sent her on a journey aboard the Queen Elizabeth to America leaving behind her family with nothing but a suitcase filled with sugar. Upon her arrival at Ellis Island, she embarked on a life that would be filled with remarkable moments. With a voice that could light up a room, she performed at the Blue Room in New York City and even graced the stage of the popular television game show “It’s Your Life” and won.
Rebecca had a passion for exploration, traveling to various countries and embracing the beauty of the world. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was reveling in the thrill of playing bingo or indulging in the excitement of lottery tickets. Her hands were equally talented; she loved crocheting and created beautiful creations such as Afghan blankets and dolls. Rebecca’s most precious time was spent with family as they were the cornerstone of her life.
The legacy that Rebecca leaves behind to cherish her memory are her children: Edythe A. McCarter of Lititz, James McCarter (Kathy) of Indiana and Rebecca Ochoa (Charles) of Indiana; her grandchildren: Joshua, Rachel (Nathan), Christina (Roben), Charles (Stacy), Ariel (Kristin), Rebecca Mariá, Christopher (Amanda), Joseph (Tiffany), Kevin (Rachel), Thistle, Brittany, Jim, Charles Jr. and Celeste; her great grandchildren: Sarah, Andrew, Phoenix Skye, Daniel, Kaylee, Evan, Aidan, Kevin John, August, Aneliese, Sawyer and Aiden; one brother: John Hart; two daughters in law: Lori McCarter and Kathryn McCarter and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rebecca is preceded in death by her sons: Charles Nicholas McCarter, Brian Frank McCarter and Kevin John McCarter; one granddaughter: Jennifer Richardson and eleven siblings.
Family will receive friends at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. 17543 on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 1PM to 2Pm, with a prayer service to begin at 2PM.
