Richard L. “Dick” Hess, 88

Richard L. “Dick” Hess, 88, of Willow Street, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
He was the husband of Florence “Flossie” M. Hostetter Hess, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage this past September 12th. Born in New Providence, he was the son of the late Landis and Annie E. Wimer Hess.
Dick had worked as the supervisor of the garage at Armstrong World Industries for 30 years, until his retirement in 1989. Prior to Armstrong, he had worked for Graybill Brothers of Refton.
An avid baseball player and fan, Dick played in high school, during his service in the Air Force with all-star league, and in church leagues as well, playing until the age of 45. He was a Phillies fan and a Penn State football fan.
He was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Dick was a 32nd degree Mason, being a member of Blue Lodge 496 Charles M. Howell Lodge of Millersville, the Lancaster Shrine Club, the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection and the Valley of Harrisburg Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Willow Street Lions Club where he served as historian.
He and his wife Flossie were active members at West Willow United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael A. Hess, married to Elizabeth A. Rutkowski of Harding, PA and his grandson, Andrew M. Hess. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Hettie Lintner, Dorothy Bender, and Rev. Robert Hess.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 6-8PM at the West Willow United Methodist Church, 118 West Willow Rd., Willow Street, PA 17584 and again on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 10-11AM, with the Funeral Service to follow 11AM. Interment in Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Dick’s memory to West Willow United Methodist Church at the above address.
