Richard R. Gallagher, 89

Richard R. Gallagher, 89, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on November 10, 2014 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Columbia, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and Christie (Lutz) Gallagher. Richard was the husband of Beatrice “Betty” (Linton) Gallagher with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage.
A veteran of WWII, Richard served in the U.S. Navy as a radio Technician aboard the USS Phoenix from 1942-1945. He worked at Armstrong World Industries in the inspection department following WWII. Richard served for 26 years as a fireman for the City of Lancaster, retiring as a Lieutenant. During retirement, Richard worked at Fulton Bank as a courier for 10 years and also at the Manheim Auto Auction for 5 years.
Richard was a lifetime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and a member of the Millersville VFW, Riverside Club and the Eighth Ward Club. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard, cards and Pinochle. Richard loved animals, especially his dogs.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Betty, are 4 daughters: Doris Kelly, Kathleen Shuman, wife of Kenneth, and Joan Gerber, all of Lancaster, and Jean Nessinger, wife of Michael, of Leola, PA; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by 4 siblings: Jane Haubert, Anna Landis, Helen Lamb and Clarence Gallagher.
A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA 17602 with a Funeral Service to follow at 11 AM with Rev. David Kreider officiating. Interment will take place at Centerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Lancaster County SPCA, 848 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.

I am so sorry for your loss. My father Ab Suter was very sad to hear about Dick. It was so nice that they got to spend some time together at the heart group last month to reminse. God Bless The Suter family
