Richard T. Conley, 76
Richard T. Conley, 76, of Mountville, died peacefully Saturday June 17, 2006 at Hospice of Lancaster County. Born in York, he was the son of the late W.J. Bryan and Doris Kenly Conley.
Richard was married to the late Marilyn Spoo Conley who recently passed in April. They would have been married 52 years in July.
With a handicapped arm all his life, he knew no limits. Dick was a track star at the former Lancaster High School where he graduated in 1948. He was an avid bowler, earning many trophies and patches. Richard was a member of the YMCA Senior Basketball League where his team won the championship in 1952. He was also selected to be on the League’s All Star Team and finished as 3rd highest scorer in the league.
Dick and his wife loved to travel and owned a trailer near Rehoboth Beach where they visited frequently. Mr. Conley was a Jack-of-All-Trades but was a supervisor for 30 years at Safe Hardware Co. in Lancaster. If Dick wasn’t on the track, basketball court, at the bowling alley, or building additions onto his home, he was probably pulling a prank on someone.
Surviving is a daughter, Lorrie Axe, 3 grandchildren: Veronica, Derrick, and Dylan, 3 great grandchildren, and a sister, Eileen Conley Bernhardt.
A graveside service will be held at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 11AM with the Rev. Jonathan Tompkins officiating. Please send donations to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or the Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital c/o Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Office of Development, One Charles Center, 100 N.
