Robert “Bobby” Alan Whetts, 57
April 29, 2015
Robert “Bobby” Alan Whetts, son of Louise B. Williams and the late Robert A. Whetts, Sr., departed this life on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at his home in Lancaster, PA. Bobby was born at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital on July 22, 1957. He attended J. P. McCaskey High School and was a U. S. Army veteran. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.
Bobby was a devoted son and brother, but most of all a deeply committed single parent to his sons. He always extended a helping hand when it was needed.
He enjoyed laughing and cooking (especially smoked turkey, fried chicken and crab cakes). Bobby was quite the joker and impressionist, he could imitate the voice and mannerism of just about anyone he knew. He always had a joke (famous for his one liners) and a smile. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He worked for Armstrong World Industries for 29 years and Packaging Corporation of America for 5 years. He also had a strong passion for barbering.
In addition to his mother, Bobby leaves to cherish his memory three sons: Khalif and Rikon Whetts and Abdul Nichols of Lancaster, PA, two sisters: Cynthia Whetts Whitfield of Lansdale, PA and Kimberly Williams of Lancaster, PA, and a niece, Nikara Whetts and nephew, Jaden Montgomery and host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Whetts, Sr.; son, Shawn Wright; brother, Brian M. Whetts; and paternal & maternal grandparents.
Home Going Services will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Bright Side Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603. Friends will be received from 11AM-12PM at the church. Interment will be at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, c/o Lancaster General Health Foundation, 609 N. Cherry St., Lancaster, PA 17602 or Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
