Robert J. Wagner, Sr., 89
March 4, 1935 - June 06, 2024
Robert J. Wagner, Sr. of St. Anne’s Retirement Community, was welcomed into the gates of heaven on June 6, 2024. He was born in Lancaster on March 4, 1935, to Conrad Wagner Sr. and Mary (Houser) Wagner. He will be remembered as the loving and devoted husband of Helen I. (Roby) Wagner for over 67 years.
At 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the end of the Korean conflict until September of 1955. He would spend his career as an upholsterer for Flexsteel Industries for over 48 years and was a longtime member of the Upholsterer’s International Union Local 180. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 34.
Most importantly, Robert dedicated his life to his family and his faith. He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and later, St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church where he was an usher, eucharistic minister and participated in the men’s club. After retirement he volunteered his time at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. His faith played an integral part of his life and would recite the Holy Rosary daily. In his free time, Robert enjoyed dancing, camping with his family, and frequently reminisced of trips he took to Disney with his children and later, his grandchildren.
His love will live on in his wife Helen; children, Penny Daily, wife of the late Randy Daily of Strasburg, Robert Wagner, Jr., husband of Jennifer of Phoenixville, Jeffrey Wagner, husband of Lorainne of Quarryville, and Mary Evans, wife of Gregory of Denver, PA, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who affectionately call him “Pop”. He was preceded in passing by his grandson, Nicholas Wagner, and siblings, Louise Trimble, Elizabeth Bowman, Adeline Gaddis, and Conrad Wagner, Jr.
A viewing will be held from 6:30 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA 17551. Everyone is welcome to join in a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6 PM. On Thursday, June 13, 2024, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603. Viewing will be held at the church prior to the mass from 10:30 AM until 11:30. Interment will take place following Mass at Laurel Hill Cemetery. To Mrs Wagner, Penny, Bobby, Jeff, Mary, and family. You were a very large and special part of our family back in the younger years of our lives. I’ll never forget all the special times we spent together camping out, parties at our house, sleep overs, going to the Philadelphia zoo, and my first Phillies game. How about the tree house! You always stood byour family through all of our difficult transitions in life when a lot of people didn’t. You were my second family anchored by a great husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, friend to many, and hard working citizen to his family and his church. I’ll never forget him or any of you!
Rest in peace as I know you will Mr Wagner

My deepest condolences to Mr. Wagner’s family. I was their Pharmacist at the Kmart in Willow Street and I always remember his kind and gentle nature. He always had a smile and his little bottle of water when he came in to the Pharmacy. He took such good care of his wife Helen, always making sure she never runs out of her medications. I miss seeing him since Kmart closed. He will be missed by many! I am very sorry for your loss.

To the entire Robert Wagner family. We wanted to extend our deepest condolences to you all regarding Robert’s recent passing. We met him and Helen some years ago and found them to be a fine and friendly couple who always treated us with kindness and respect and shared some of their life stories with us honestly and with out hesitation. We didn’t know him well but what we did know of him was that he was a hard working, thoughtful and loving family man whom we are sure will be missed and fondly remembered by his entire, large extended family. May he rest in peace! John and Marilyn Hipps

I met Bob, Helen and family many years ago when I married into his cousin’s family. I will always remember the love and kindness that Bob showed everyone. I so admired he and Helen for the wonderful life they had, and shared, with everyone. There is another angel in Heaven. Love, Deb (Kalbach) Weber

I met the Wagners when I was five years old when we moved to the house across the street. I have many memories of this special man. He taught me to swim on one of the camping trips I was invited to go. They took my large family (my parents & at least 4 of my siblings) in for a few nights when our house had a fire. He danced with me at my wedding. Just to mention a few of his kind deeds. He will be missed sorry for your loss Wagner family 😢 Kay Kreider

Bob was a real pillar in the community. A server who served with a smile and encouragement! We grieve with the Wagner family today, and remember that grin, and smile. He always had something to build you up with, to drive you on, and to let you know everything is okay! My heart is heavy today, but relieved by the fact we will see him again in Glory! May the peace and comfort of the LORD surround you all in this time.

I met Bob and Helen at St Anne’s and was immediately drawn to Bob’s smile and welcoming personality. It was obvious he was devoted to Helen and all his family. He will be missed because he was loved. Sylvia Mclaughlin
