Robert M. Redington, Jr., 80
August 11, 2017
Robert “Bob” Martin Redington, Jr., 80, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. Born in Kingston, PA, he was the son of the late Robert & Eleanor (James) Redington. Bob was the loving husband to Joyce Ann (Sweppenheiser) Redington and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage on August 7, 2017.
A proud veteran and patriot who loved his country, he served 2 years active duty for the US Army and 6 years in the Navy Reserves. He came to Lancaster in 1959 to work as a service technician for UGI Corporation. A loyal and hardworking employee and member of the I.B.E.W., he retired as a dispatcher 38 years later. He formed many close friendships with coworkers and became known as “Big Red” to everyone. He especially loved attending UGI company picnics, Easter egg hunts, and Christmas parties with his children.
He completed a course under the benefit of the GI bill that culminated in building his own television. Thereafter, he enjoyed building many electronic kits with his children and grandchildren. Bob “the technician” took pride in being able to fix just about anything; a lifelong learner, he embraced changes in technology and even social media. Bob also enjoyed music, NASCAR, and Phillies baseball. A born storyteller, he had a wonderful sense of humor. Most of all, he was generous and thoughtful with everyone he met, offering his attention and gifts to his children, grandchildren, “adopted” grandchildren, and his caregivers in later life. A strong believer in the Catholic faith, Bob was an active member of the St. Anthony Parish until later life when he participated in mass from home or at St. Anne’s Retirement Community.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Joyce, are children: Susan Redington Bobby, Robert M. Redington, II, Lori DiStefano (Joseph), and Kelly Redington-Przychodzien (Arthur); grandsons: Michael & Jonathan DiStefano; and siblings: Raymond Redington, Jean Peterson, Patricia Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St, Millersville, PA 17551. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Bob will be laid to rest with Military Honors at St. Anthony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob’s name to St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave, Columbia, PA 17512. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Anne’s Retirement Community for the compassionate care Bob received.

I’m so grateful for my dad and everything he did for our family, and even though this time is hard on us, I’m glad for my mom and siblings and every single supportive family member and friend. Dad, I’m going to miss you every day. I’m so sure, though, that you’re reunited with your mother and your UGI buddies. Please watch over us. I love you forever–Susan
