Ronald Eugene Troop, 71

Ronald Eugene Troop, 71, of Lancaster, passed away at home on Friday, April 27, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was born to his mother, June and adoptive father, Joseph Szalay. He graduated from McCaskey High School. Ron served two years in the army. He married Margaret Walker in 1968. Ron and Margaret (Peggy)had a son Keith in 1970 and lived in Lancaster. After Peggy passed away with cancer in 1999, Ron then married Bernadette in 2000 continuing to live in Lancaster for rest of his days. Ron worked for Pensupreme Dairies for a short time and went on to work at Armstrong World Industries for 38 years.
Ron enjoyed a wonderful social life with many friends. He was a member of many local social clubs. He spent much of his time with these friends at the Hubley, Commercials and Seventh Ward clubs. In recent years, he enjoyed camping season with close friends at his vacation spot in Elk View Shores, MD.
Ron is survived by his wife, Bernadette; son, Keith husband of Lauren; two grandchildren: Katelyn and Cole; sisters: Cheryl Phelps and Kim Szalay; sister-in-law, Elaine Szalay; and two nephews: Brian and Joshua Rishell. Ron was proceeded in death by first wife, Margaret (Peggy) and brother, Rick Szalay.
Ron will be laid to rest in at Riverview Burial Park. A graveside service will take place at 11AM on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Riverview Burial Park, S. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.

Sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. I worked with him at Armstrong where he was known as “Trooper”. He was always a lot of fun to be around!

Dear Bernie,
we were so sorry to hear of Troop’s passing. We’ve not seen the two of you in along time but often talk about all the fun times we had at the Hubley. He will be dearly missed by many people. He was a fun guy!!!!! Keeping you in our prayers.
