Sharon E. “Sherry” McConaghay, 61

June 24, 2016

Sharon E. “Sherry” McConaghay, 61, of Stevens, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 24, 2016, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Aberdeen, MD, Sherry was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helene (McCaffery) Stafferi. She was the wife of James McConaghay, with whom she celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Sherry earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University, where she went on to earn her Master’s degree. Sherry was a devoted Elementary principal at Lititz Christian School where she loved all of her kids. She was a member of Grace Church, Lititz for 37 years and enjoyed traveling, but more than anything, Sherry loved spending time with her family, shopping with her daughters, taking photos and playing with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Sherry is survived by her two daughters: Shannon Heydt, wife of Keith, of San Francisco, CA and Allison McConaghay Shu, wife of Richard, of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren: Beckett and Paxton Heydt, and Brady Wiggns; two sisters: Barbara Ness, wife of Marty, of Lititz and Toni Autieri, wife of Richard, of Philadelphia; and two nephews: Craig Jones and Alex Autieri and niece: Raphaella Autieri.
Funeral Services for Sherry will be held at 10AM, Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Grace Church, 501 W. Lincoln Ave., Lititz, PA 17543. After the service, family will receive friends for a time of fellowship. Private interment will follow at Witness Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sherry’s memory may be made to Lititz Christian School at the address above.

I worked for Sherry as a substitute teacher.  She always greeted me with a smile and treated me with the utmost respect.  In my opinion Lititz Christian was richer because of her leadership.

Our hearts are deeply sadden for the too soon passing of my cousin Sherry. She always had that cheerful smile which would light up the room, no matter the circumstance. Sherry IS my favorite cousin, friend and sounding board. I will forever hold her spirit close to my heart and soul. Always there for encouragement, mostly emailing back and forth.
Yes, this is a sorrowful time, but it is a time to celebrate for Sherry, she is with the Creator, and Aunt Helene. So, lets sing from our hearts and souls for Sherry.
Thank you James, Shannon & Allison for sharing Sherry with all of us. Bob & Susan McCaffery Lexington, NC

Our hearts were so heavy to hear of Sherry’s battle with her illness. Prayers going up for ya’ll on this difficult journey.  Our hearts so saddened to hear of her passing.
Sherry, what a sweet and kind spirit… her excellence as she worked and dealt with people.  Our family has been blessed and influenced greatly when we were in Lititz and as our boys were such close friend with the girls growing up.  Our victory truly is in Jesus who conquered death.  Her faith in Jesus is the assurance of a future reunion.  Our prayer is that your faith will be strengthened as you reflect on His goodness and presence even in this time of heartache. That His comfort would engulf each if you.  That your memories would bring a sweet wave of celebration and graditude for the lives influence by knowing her.
Our love and prayers,
Sandi and Tom Avey

Jim, Allison & Shannon,
Our hearts grieve for you for such a deep loss. Miss Sherry…My treasured picture of her is of a smiling, happy, generous woman who wished everyone the best and encouraged those around her. Her words were always meant to lift up, praise God and stay on mission for Him with whomever she came in contact. I remember her laugh as well. 🙂 We will continue to be in prayer for you. Heaven has gained a cheerleader of life and a beautiful saint. We love you.  Brenda on behalf of Kevin, Chelsea and Lexy Rutt

I spent a good bit of time at the McConaghay house as a kid and always appreciated Sherry’s kindness and gentle, cheerful spirit.  I know she will be greatly missed by her family, church, and the LCS staff and kids.  It is comforting to know that she’s with Jesus and no longer in pain.  We’ll see her again some wonderful day!  My prayers are with her loved ones.  – Jen (Bruckhart) Alexander

To Sherry’s Family and extended Family (Miss Constance Maser, and Tammy, Brian &  Brady Wiggins,) we are truly sorry for the loss of Sherry.  She was such a sweet person who gave so much to so many.  Having our only child attend Morning Star under the direction of Sherry when our son was just 4 months old through the age of 5.  We were referred to Morning Star by a friend,  and with the warmth and caring direction of Sherry,  we looked no further for assistance with our child care after our first meeting!  What a tremendous loss for all who knew Sherry and her sweet, sweet, disposition, and caring.  What a loss for all of us who knew her and had the chance to interact with her.  Her family was an extension of all the lives she touched in such a compassionate way.  You could always count on a smile from Sherry,  whether it was in the hallway at school or over the phone.  There was sweetness in all that she did,  and we are grateful to have known her. We are blessed that she had influence on our son,  and all the other children whose lives she touched over the years in which she played a key part in their early devolopement at Morning Star and Lititz Christian School.
To the McConaghay Family and extended Family, Thank you for sharing your Wife, Mother, and Friend with all of us, and thank you Sherry, you will be missed!
With All of Our Sympathy,
Chris, Suzanne & Matthew Geib

We are saddened to hear of Sherry’s passing.  We didn’t know her real well,  but just to see her you could tell that she was a loving, kind person, and her life affected many people.  She always had that contagious smile.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and close friends and all who loved her.  Dennis and Linda Patrick

Sherry’s smile was very “natural”, as she seemed to always be wearing it, and it was just how she loved on all the kids who were graced by her relationships. That love just flowed from her, and one could tell her “cup overflowed”. It is evident, in how her family loved her back, that her passing has left a void in their and many other hearts. The Peters’ family benefitted from her caring as she cared for our son, as he enterd the third grade as a new student, and she “played along” with an alias when our son introduced himself to her. Her story warms our heart and will remain a treasured memory of Sherry, and her love of kids.
We rejoice in knowing Sherry is in heaven and we will be rejoined soon. The Peters family send our prayers.

Sherry & I were in the same graduating class in Warwick High School, and years later we were delighted to find that we ended up working in the same building — she at Lititz Christian School and I at Grace Church. We had fun chats from time to time, and enjoyed catching up on news of classmates and sharing stories of our dear grandchildren. You are in our prayers at this sad time Jim, Shannon & Allison, and we send you loving thoughts and sincere condolences.

Words can’t express how wonderful of a woman Sherry was.  She was one of my first customers when I opened my boutique.  She adored her family and her smile could light up any room.  I know that we will see her again in time.  Much love and hugs to her family. Xoxo

I have been missing Sherry very much since she became ill and not getting the opportunity to see and talk with her and Jim at church.  Sherry always had time and a smile for me.  It is difficult to describe in detail, but she simply sincerely cared about you and you could feel she did.  I met Sherry through Morning Star where my children, now in college, attended preschool & kindergarten.  The best compliment I can give her is I trusted her to care for my children, my greatest gifts from God here on earth.  My children’s lives as well as mine were made better by knowing Sherry.  My sincere and deep sympathy to Jim, Shannon, Allison and the family and all Sherry’s friends and co-workers.  We will all miss her very, very, much.  Sincerely, Randy Sammet Family.

Sherry and I were best friends for a long time. I lived in Kissle Hill with her and would ride bike over to her house to spend the day. some times Paula Grove would join us. Toni was younger but might remember me. I always hoped that i might run into her out somewhere and have thought about her often over the years. So sorry that she has left , I will keep you all and Sherry in my thoughts for many days to come.  with Love Carol Kautz Blom,   I lived on Mayfield Drive with my grandparents and brother Frank

The Cleck Family attended LCS for a few years,  and Sherry was such a light to us,  and all who knew her!! We are so saddened to hear of her passing.  She was a good friend and a great woman of God. When our youngest was born prematurely,  she took our children in to LCS so we could care for our baby.  She was a gem.  We will miss her. She had a great impact on our life. We rejoice knowing that she is with her savior and KING Jesus Christ.

Bobby and I are so deeply saddened by the passing of an amazing friend who was a wonderful neighbor. Never got to talk that often, but when we did, an hour would of have passed before we would know it. Sherry was the most sweetest, kindness person with a sweet smile and laugh. Rest in peace Sherry, you will be forever missed. Our deepest sympathy to Jimmy, Shannon and Allison and the family. May you find comfort from all the wonderful memories you made with your loving Wife and Mother. Our deepest condolences, Love Bob and Deb Meier
