Stephen C. Kirchner, 71

December 22, 1952 - December 27, 2023

Stephen C. Kirchner, 71, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Pauline M. (Boxleitner) Kirchner.

A 1970 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Steve earned a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University in 1974. He worked at Alumax from 1977 to 1990 as the Environmental Administrator and then for SKF USA, Inc. from 1990 to 2011 as the Corporate Manager of Environmental Affairs.

Steve was a naturalist and birdwatcher, who enjoyed hiking with his dogs, tent camping, skiing, and canoeing. He experienced great vacations to Chincoteague, VA, and Glacier National Park in Montana. A funny, silly, and goofy person, Steve enjoyed mimicking funny movie scenes for his family.

Surviving Steve are his son, Nathaniel “Nate” Kirchner of York, daughter, Hope E. Amspacher, wife of Scott of Red Lion, four grandchildren, Joshua Kirchner, Matthew Kirchner, Lillian Amspacher, and Kaylee Amspacher, and four siblings, Darlene Deverter, wife of Joseph of Mount Joy, Suzanne Bollinger of Chambersburg, Thomas Kirchner of Lancaster, and Theresa Koch of Vicksburg. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his grandson Zachary Kirchner in 2021, and his sister Margaret Garmen.

Steve’s family will greet guests from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the memorial service at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will be private.

I’m sorry I missed his announcement. I hadn’t seen Steve since we dated in 1976, after my divorce. Then at a later reunion. I’m sorry for his children and family members. Steve and I went to St. Joe’s and LCHS together but weren’t very close until we dated. Will miss his qorky humor and laugh. Rest in peace dear friend. I’ll be meeting you eventually.

What a shock! The last time I saw Steve, he was bike riding thru our development. I never expected to see his obit. I will always remember him so healthy and fit. I am so sorry for your loss.

Sorry I missed the sad news. I would drive by the house and stop in to see how he was doing. First met him in Boy Scouts back in the 60’s. Somewhere I have a picture of him swamping a canoe in Squire Lake at Camp Mack. Later, our paths crossed at Howmet/Alumax where I was supplying him with environmental data. And later, we’d see each other at S Clyde Weavers from time to time. He was a truly optimistic person and shall be sorely missed.  Robert G Smith

We haven’t seen Steve since being classmates together at LCHS but both of us will always remember him as a fun, outgoing person who always had a smile on his face. May the happy memories you’ve made with him buttress you in this time of sadness. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on his passing and know that his spirit will always be with you.

I’m so sorry to see Steve passed away. He was a wonderful person whom I got to know while he was Oak Leaf Manor North. I got the pleasure of picking up his dog and visiting his home. He was truly a fun loving person and a jokester.

Steve had the most wonderful, quirky sense of humor and a level of sincerity that I will dearly miss. I promise to repeat your jokes and give you full credit, Steve!  It was a privilege to know you.

I was one of many dog parents who frequented the same neighborhood streets on our doggie walks. It was always fun running into Steve and his latest fur baby. Our conversations centered around doggie health and our love of nature. Steve was such a warm and genuine person. He will be greatly missed by so many of the neighborhood doggie parents! Beth Pyle

My family was neighbors to Steve and we always enjoyed being greeted by him when he passed our home, while taking one of his many walks with his special pups. He was always so kind to our two sons and they would often run out of the house to greet him and spend some time visiting with him. We will surely miss those visits.
