Suzanne Hinerdeer, 94

December 20, 2020

Suzanne Hinerdeer, 94, of Homestead Village and formerly of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020. Suzanne was born in Shelbyville, Indiana, on April 26, 1926, and was the daughter of Preston and Ida Mae Fox.

Suzanne was a devoted mom, grandmother, and wife; she grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana. She met her husband, Eugene, of almost 30 years, during World War II, introduced to each other by her brother, Jean. They married in Lancaster, PA, which became her forever home.

Suzy Fox graduated from Shelbyville High School and was voted Female Athlete of the Year. Her career aspiration that she shared with her high school senior class was to be a “MOM.” She more than fulfilled her dream with her five children, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Suzanne, Suzy, Sue, Ma-Maw, Grandma, had a wonderful life and a heart full of love. She loved her family, horses, cooking, baking, crafting, travel, sewing, reading, movies, and puzzles. Her greatest joy was gathering with her family during her annual holiday party, many birthday parties, Easter celebrations, and family activities throughout the year and lastly at her 90th birthday party. She enjoyed horse racing, horse shows, and was very involved with the Boots and Saddles 4-H Club where one of her proudest moments was to be named “mother of the year.” Traveling the country for horse races and shows was a family affair. Suzanne was always willing to help no matter the request. A lifetime seamstress, she started her own sewing business in her later years, “The Needle’s Eye.” Suzanne loved to sew for her family. She sewed matching dresses for her daughters and then made their wedding and bridal dresses, which was a heartfelt gift from her. Suzanne will be remembered for her strong spirit and sense of humor.

She is survived by her four daughters, Jeanne E. Knoepfle, wife of Glenn, of Riva, MD, Ann M. Sheffer of Fort Collins, CO, B. Joyce Ottinger, wife of Kurt, of Sarasota, FL, Karen S. Pratzner, wife of Mark, of Lancaster, PA. Her son, James W. Hinerdeer, husband of Linda, of Jonestown, PA, preceded her in death. Also, Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, her parents, and 5 brothers and four sisters.

On behalf of her family, we would like to thank the staff at Homestead Village who cared for her since 2012. She will forever be in our hearts and will continue to live on through her family.

Suzanne will be laid to rest beside her husband, Eugene, privately in Long Memorial United Methodist Church cemetery. Please omit flowers. Contributions in Suzanne’s memory may be made to Schreiber for Pediatric Development, https://www.schreiberpediatric.org/make-a-difference/donate/
