Suzanne M. Ail, 69

April 26, 2023

Suzanne Marie Ail, 69, of Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of Anne Weiss (Oswald) Ail and the late Richard Robert Ail.

Suzanne earned both her master’s degree in theology and doctorate in Psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA. She went on to have a rewarding career as a Pediatric Psychologist spanning a period of 30 years, 8 at Philhaven Hospital and 22 in her private practice in Lititz, PA.

Suzanne found great peace in her Christian Faith. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Lancaster. Suzanne was always an example of joyfulness, kindness, and had a giving spirit. Always striving to help others, she served in a variety of organizations including Head Start, Power Packs, and Habitat for Humanity. Suzanne also worked with housing rehab through Sunnyside Ministries and traveled to Pascagoula, MS and Puerto Rico with the Episcopal Church to assist with hurricane relief work during hurricanes Katrina and Maria. Traveling was one of Suzanne’s passions, traveling throughout the United States and the world, making many friends along the way.

In addition to her mother, Anne, she is survived by her best friend extraordinaire, Debbie Logan, who faithfully stood with Suzanne in her fight against cancer; Suzanne’s family will forever be grateful to Debbie. She is also survived by her brothers, Timothy Ail, and Robert Ail, husband of Ellen, both of Palmyra; and a sister-in-law, Beth Ail, of Hummelstown. She was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Ail and sister-in-law, Sharon Ail.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the kind and compassionate care received through the doctors and staff of the Anne B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Memorial Services for Suzanne will be held at 11AM, Friday, May 12, 2023, at St. James Episcopal Church, 119 N. Duke St., Lancaster, PA 17602. Family and friends will be received for visitation from 10:30AM to 11AM at the church. Interment in the church’s memorial garden will be private. On a whim, decided to google Ginger and found this. We were roommates and best friends at Houghton College and kept in touch these 50 years since. She was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. See you on the other side, my friend

Suzanne and I had part time jobs together for two years in the early 1980’s while she was a student at Fuller in Pasadena and I was a graduate student at UCLA.  She was one of the nicest persons I have ever met.  We corresponded several times a year for 40 years, and I was always happy to read about renovations to the Mt. Gretna cottage, the Lancaster house, and her cats Annie and Addie, as well as her trips to France and Italy.  I last got to see her in 2004.  We have lost her joyful presence, but her bright spirit is a beautiful memory for her family and all who knew her.

I was Suzanne’s dissertation advisor when she did her doctorate at The Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary and she became a good friend. My deepest sympathy to all who will now be without her presence.

Suzanne was a very kind and compassionate person.  She always intent to listening to each word you said about any subject.  She was fun and her friendship with Debbie was one to be enved.  I will miss the impromptu visits, but also feel relief she is no longer suffering.  My deepest condolences to everyone who loved her and may each feel blessed to have the memories to cherish.

Dr. Ail was truly a gem and I always looked forward to time spent with her.  She was so gentle and kind, welcoming of anyone, big or small.  I had the privilege of getting to know Dr. Ail when she would visit my Head Start classroom.  She was thoughtful, generous and understanding when listening to others. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to meet and work with such an amazing person!

I will always remember Suzanne for her wit, great sense of humor and intellect. She was an amazing therapist! She was one of my first supervisors when I was an intern at Philhaven in 1991. Over the years we would keep in touch by meeting for lunch. She always had a smile and a kind word. My deepest condolences to her family.

I was meaning to catch up w/Suzanne this last year and tell her some good news about some of the work she did which only became evident down the road…  Sorry I missed the opportunity.  She was my supervisor in 1992 and was gifted in so many ways.  She was the “go-to” psychologist for many MH professionals who wanted their own children in the best of hands.  Rest in Peace.

Suzanne lived below in an apartment. We shared our beginnings in our practices. I enjoyed Annie her cat. Then we both got our own homes. Yearly Debbie, Suzanne and I caught up with each at Prince St Cafe. She was always supportive and caring. I will miss these times

To be able to sit in the company of Suzanne was to feel peace and grace all around.  Suzanne’s insightful and joy filled spirit was truly a gift.  We spoke early on of her illness and she and Debbie were always realistic yet optomistic.  I believe that is brought her and additional year of life.  Debbie is the type of friend any of us would be blessed to have in our life.  Her steadfast sisterhood in Christ was an example to us all. We will miss seeing you Suzanne but your essence will remain.  Thank you for your friendship.  Into your hands oh merciful Savor except your servent Suzanne🙏🏻

Appreciated over the years sharing our clinical practice in Lititz. Good memories of lunch time spent in clinical consultation , Suzanne sharing some excerpt from the latest book she was reading, discussing political and faith perspectives that were always thoughtful, expressed with grace and humor. Blessings on the family and Debbie during this time.

So many times we cry when a loved one is gone, we should cherish the memories! Just remember that God also sheds tears for this soul but they are tears of joy welcoming his loved one home.

Suzanne and I trained together at Philhaven many years ago. She was always a colleague but more than that a loving welcoming and affirming friend who always took the phone call no matter what the issue- her love character and life was a testament of giving with abundant grace- grateful beyond words

I praise God for the blessing of such a truly great sister. I’m thankful for the countless memories created from our years together both growing up and as adults.  It was hard to watch her battle cancer, but she remained a constant example of faith in action – never complaining, always trusting our Lord to carry her through.  Although my heartfelt love will endure, she will be missed, but for a season.  Even now, I look forward to when I will see her again for an eternity in heaven – for our hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Her Brother, Tim
