Theodore W. “Ted” McComsey, 65
September 10, 2013
On September 10th, 2013, Ted unexpectedly pitched his final tent at the great campground in the sky. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late William B. and Alta L. Wiest McComsey.
He leaves behind a loving legacy which includes his wife of 37 years, Barbara J. Weidman McComsey, and four children: Shannon M. McComsey Bucher and partner Beth Storer, of Lancaster, William B. married to Laura McComsey of California, Kevin S. McComsey of Manheim, and Shawn A. married to Ana McComsey of Mt. Joy.
A living font of information and an unending source of knowledge, he considered writing a book called “Ted’s Compendium of Little Known and Useless Facts,” but was certain that it would not have been a bestseller.
A lover of the great outdoors, he greatly enjoyed camping and hiking. During these awesome adventures he was always searching for snakes. Considerable time was spent looking for the slinky creatures, and most times they eluded him, frustrating him to no end.
A passel of grandchildren will no longer enjoy time spent with Pappy in the creek. They include Tyler, Cody, Ashlyn, Cassidy, Gage, Kyle, Alexandria, Anjelina, Dylan, and Mia.
A US Navy Veteran, he was proud of his time spent in the service. He served aboard the USS Bennington as an Electronics Technician Navigation 3rd class. Never-ending stories were spun regarding the quality of the food. As a member of the VFW Post 5956, he frequently enjoyed Sunday breakfast with his wife, mother-in-law, Arlene Weidman, brother-in-law, Herbert Weidman Jr., and father-in-law, Herbert Weidman.
He retired from Lapp Electrical, Inc. in 2012 after over 30 years as an electrician. Despite repeated pleas from his wife and children about the “to do” list of numerous home projects, he accepted a part-time position at GCM, Inc. earlier this year.
Friends will be received on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with a Time of Sharing to begin at 11AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Dear Barbara & families:
I was so sad to read of Ted’s unexpected passing! I worked with Ted’s Mother Alta for many years.
She was always so very proud of her son–his Dad’s early death was her mantra & she did it proudly! His military service after his high school graduation was one of her proud moments. Another was his children (her grandchildren)!! She would always have pictures to share and stories to tell.
You all have our deepest sympathy–may wonderful memories of a life well lived bring your peace.
Sincerely–Bernice & Harlan Redcay

We were so sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. We have many fond memories of Ted as we grew up together. Unfortunately we are traveling in the Midwest and won’t be home until next week. Barb and family, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Susan and Don Piefer

Dear Barb and Family,
It is with surprise and sadness that I learned of Ted’s unexpected passing and of your loss of him as a husband, father and grandfather. As one of the tribe of other Wiest cousins who grew up in close proximity in East Petersburg or Lancaster, I can say that Ted, as the oldest of his cousins, was always a bit of a role model and trend-setter for the younger ones, even if he wasn’t aware of that: the first to serve his country in uniform, the first to marry and start a family. And always a hard working dependable guy whom his employer undoubtedly deeply appreciated. In his obituary I sense that he leaves another legacy we will all remember him for, too: his wry, ironic sense of humor and a font of stories and family history.
Though the years and great distances have separated us, you all have my heartfelt and deepest sympathy.

To: Barbara & Children
On behalf of the USS Bennington Association, please accept our condolences on the loss of your loved one.
We “thank you” for Ted’s service to God & Country. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family at this most difficult time. Gone from us physically but as long as he is remembered by just one of us, Ted shall be remembered always.
Please know that in August of next year, at the Ship’s Bell Monument in Bennington, VT., Ted shall be remembered as his name is read from a listing of those who have gone before us and the actual ship’s bell will toll in his memory. This takes place at our Annual Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony.
With My Deepest Sympathy,
Joseph Pires

Dear Barb, Children and Granchildren, My sincere and deepest sympathy to a wonderful Man who made me laugh alot. I worked with Ted at Lapp Electrical on several occations over the years, I am Manny’s Sister, Barbi.
I loved gving him a hard time about the Barons and just kidding him that his was much older than me. I would also call him the “McDonalds Man”.
He loved his family and when he talked about them, he had such a real sense of pride. My heart is very heavy for all of you and I am sure it is such disbelief for all of you right now.
Please know how much you are in my thought and prayers at this very difficult time. When I think of Ted, I think of a Man with Integrity and Pride for his work and family.
I am so sorry, I will be out of town this weekend and will not be able to meet all of you for the Time of Sharing, but I will be thinking of all of you and honoring a “Life Well Lived”.
With love and deepest sympany,
Barbi Cottingham
