Thomas J. Donnelly, 81
Thomas J. Donnelly, 81, of Lancaster, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Marguerite (Stroup) Donnelly. Tom was the husband of Alice (Shenk) Donnelly with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on February 12, 2013.
Tom graduated from Mansfield High School. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Tom was first self-employed as a barber; then he was the former owner of the Oregon Hotel (now Reflections Restaurant) and Donnelly’s Corner (now Jethro’s Restaurant). He retired from Dart Container Corp. in 1993. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed crafts, woodworking and making rosaries for the Dominican Sisters. Tom was an avid Notre Dame Football and Washington Nationals fan. He loved watching sports.
In addition to his wife, Alice, Tom is survived by his children: Jeannine Spece wife of Larry, Thomas Donnelly, Jr., Joan Weaver wife of Scott, Michael Donnelly husband of Bonnie, Catherine Linetty wife of Francis, Timothy Donnelly husband of Jodi and Patrick Donnelly husband of Ann; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Donnelly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 929 N. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 with Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter as Celebrant. A viewing will be from 7-9PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:30PM. Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to the Cloistered Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, 1834 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. I was very sorry to read of Tom’s death on Lancasteronline.com. My son still talks about Christmas celebration at Tom’s barber shop back in the ’60’s.
