Trieu Hai Ngo
Michael Trieu Hai Ngo passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the age of 93 in his home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, after battling cancer the last few years of his life. Mr. Ngo was born in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam on October 6, 1929. He was the only son of the late Hop Hoang Ngo and Teo Thi Tran and had 2 older sisters.
Mr. Ngo attended the Officer Training Corps in Vietnam. He took English courses in Vietnam and attended the Ordinance Career Officer Course in the United States. After training in the United States, Mr. Ngo returned to Vietnam and served as an Ordinance Officer of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnamese Army).
During his 21 years in the Army, he served countless positions of leadership (including Chief of the Bulletin and Translation Division and Chief of the Logistical Study and Reorganization Division) and was granted 27 medals. In March 1975, at the age of 45, Mr. Ngo achieved the rank of Colonel. Due to the Vietnam War, he escaped Vietnam with his family during the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. Mr. Ngo and his family was sponsored by friends from a Lutheran church and settled in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In Lancaster, he was a machine operator at Black & Decker Manufacturer.
Unfortunately after 39 years of marriage, his first wife, Nhuong Thi Tran, passed away due to Parkinson’s Disease on February 24, 1988, leaving him to be a single father of 9 children. Later in life, Mr. Ngo remarried to Chieu Thi Nguyen.
Mr. Ngo loved traveling and writing. He was musically talented and enjoyed playing the guitar and keyboard. As a devoted Catholic, he also spent time doing charity work and volunteering at the Vietnamese parishes in Lancaster. Mr. Ngo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He spent the last moments of his life surrounded by his family. He is survived by 8 children, 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ngo’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Lancaster General Health and Hospice & Community Care for the compassionate love and care they provided him. The family would also like to thank all the priests, friends, and family who have been part of Mr. Ngo’s vibrant life.
Mr. Ngo’s wishes were to have a traditional Vietnamese Catholic Memorial Service.
• On Friday, February 17th, the Viewing, Liturgy, and Mass will be held at Charles F. Snyder, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 from 6PM to 8PM. There will be a viewing on Saturday, February 18th at 9AM to 10AM before the Catholic Mass.
• The Catholic Mass will take place at St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Parish, 929 N. Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602, at 11AM.
• After the mass, the Rite of Committal (burial) will commence at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, 401 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17602.
As part of Mr. Ngo’s wishes, the Ngo family would like to refrain from monetary gifts.
