Virginia M. Rittenhouse Wardrop, 95
April 11, 2025
Virginia M. “Ginny” Rittenhouse, Wardrop, 95, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025.
She was the wife of the late James S. Wardrop, Sr., who passed away in 2017. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter Henry Rittenhouse and Estella Heaps Rittenhouse.
Ginny was a graduate of JP McCaskey High School and had been a homemaker. Her family was her greatest treasure and she was a very social person who enjoyed talking to everyone. She especially enjoyed taking rides in the car while being recorded and gained the name “Driving Miss Ginny” on Facebook and loved to hear all of the comments.
With her faith in her Lord being a very important part of her life, she was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster.
Ginny loved to go out to eat, especially for breakfast, with two of her favorite places being the Country Kitchen and Eat-N-Park, where she had her photo featured in their brochures . She had also written many published stories that appeared in the “I Know A Story” section of the Lancaster Newspaper over the years.
She is survived by her children: Jamie Wardrop Brown of Lancaster, James S. Wardrop, Jr. of East Petersburg, Jody Wardrop of Lancaster, Jeannine Sailer of Lititz, and Jeffrey Wardrop of Naples, FL, and son-in-law – Donald Stewart; her 10 grandchildren: Eric Wardrop, Nicole Stewart, Kory Wardrop, Ashley Stewart, Majena Wardrop, LeeAndra Peck, Matthew and Alison Sailer, Emily Kaiser, and Jaedyn Wardrop; her 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild being delivered the day of her funeral. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Henry, Victor, and Harold Rittenhouse, and Betty Taylor.

My condolences to the Wardrop family. Ginny was my daughters first babysitter when she was 6 weeks old. She was just the best and I grew to love her. I got to know all of the Wardrop kids. Such a wonderful family. What a loving, caring, selfless person Ginny was. May God give you comfort and peace during this time of grief.
Rest in Peace Dear Ginny ❤️

Aunt Ginny and my mom (Marge) were sisters-in-law and great friends – with countless funny stories & adventures. Growing up I remember her as a warm & unselfish lady with a great sense of humor, who never had an unkind word for anyone. She will be missed by many. Condolences to her family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to all my cousins. Aunt Ginny was very close to my Mom (Betsy Rittenhouse) they grew up together and became Sister-in-Laws. They spoke to each other weekly and supported each other as they raised their children. She would visit me at work at the “Cowboy Dentist. Dr. Miller was a fan Tom Mix (cowboy actor from the old silent movies. Aunt Ginny wanted to share with Dr. Miller that she lived in the home of Tom Mix’s sister’s Aunt Ginny had a ton of stories and life experiences. She will be dearly missed. Sending Love and Prayers to all my cousins during this difficult time.

Death leaves a hurt no one can heal…
Love leaves a memory no one can steal!
Sad to learn of cousin Ginny’s passing. He father and my grandmother Erma Miriam Rittenhouse were siblings. My father Mel Jacoby (“Sonny”) to the family, had many first cousins. Ginny was a stand out! She had a warm welcoming way with many stories to share about our family and growing up in Lancaster in general. Her faith was strong. She will be missed not just by our family but, indeed, by all who knew her.

Condolences to Ginny’s (Mom) family. She always was a Mom to me as one of the family since Jamie and I were 16. I will miss her very much. She was a kind hearted person and never have I seen her loose her temper…there could of been many opportunities. Love goes with her to be the all mighty. RIP
