Walter “Dave” Davis, Jr., 82

Walter “Dave” Davis, Jr., 82, departed this life Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness. Born August 4, 1932, Walter was the son of the late Mattie and Walter Davis, Sr., of Greenville, MS. He was involved in church and affiliated with the Masonic Lodge there. He moved to Lancaster as a young man and began working many jobs as a laborer and private trash hauler. Walter also drove for a trucking company and worked for Hubley’s, Grinnell and K & W Tires for a short time. Upon his illness, Walter retired from working. He enjoyed fishing and was a great cook, especially soul food. He enjoyed entertaining his many friends and neighbors. On occasion he would volunteer for the food bank at Bethel A.M.E. Church and attended the Albright Day Care Center.
He leaves to mourn his loss of his loving wife, Pamela G. (Dixon) Davis, who was faithfully devoted to his daily care. They would have celebrated 31 years of marriage in October. He is also survived by his son, Walter Davis, III; a daughter, Lorraine Lucas; a special granddaughter Laila, whom he loved dearly, many grandchildren; a sister Mattie Davis, of Mississippi; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Walter will be held at 10:30AM, on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 450 E. Strawberry St. Lancaster, PA 17602, with the Rev. Edward M. Bailey officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
