Walter David Masterton, 73
October 20, 2014
Walter David Masterton, 73, of Lancaster was called to his eternal home on October 20, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, the son of Walter and Irma Masterton, he graduated from Drexel University and studied at Temple University on a fellowship in Physics. He married his loving and faithful wife of almost 52 years, Margaret (Shields) Masterton, on December 22, 1962.
As a youth, he was a Boy Scout patrol leader and Order of the Arrow representative. He loved hiking, biking, and camping, and later home repair and remodeling.
In 1965 he and his wife moved to Lititz and spent the next 37 years with RCA in the color picture tube design group. He became a group leader of technical staff and authored/coauthored seven patents.
He and his wife served as youth leaders at their Lititz church. Later, after moving to Lancaster, he served as a Sunday school teacher, editor of the church news letter, served on the membership care committee doing visitation, and became a deacon, and later an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Walt is survived by his sister Jane (Donald) Melcher of East Greenville, PA, a son Michael (Lian) in Vienna, VA, and daughters Cynthia (Christopher) Buda of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jennifer (Randell) Wenndt of Columbus, GA. In addition to their children, Walt was very proud of their four Buda grandsons (Andrew, Jonathan, Mark, and Trevor) and two Wenndt grandchildren (Tyler and Madison). He loved each one and enjoyed spending time with them.
His greatest pleasure came from learning more about the Lord and Savior, and he prayed for the Lord to open the eyes and ears of many more to come know Him. He also looked forward to His kingdom wherein will be perfect righteousness and justice, and where there shall be no longer any death, mourning, crying or pain (Rev. 21:4).
Friends will be received on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 from 10-11:30AM, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:30AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Walter’s memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church at the address above.

My grandfather was a wonderful man. He loved everyone he met and helped anyone he could. He was a godly figure, and was a great influence on us. He would do anything for us even if he didn’t want to. He would do it just to make us smile. I miss his loving gaze, the tune he always whistled, and just how much his presence had an influence on our mood. He made us happy and if we were sad he would say a joke that might not have been funny but the effort was good enough for us. He would do so many things every day that you could just expect him to do and it would make me laugh. I would laugh and say,”Oh, PopPop,” and everyone would wonder what I was laughing at. I miss him today and I will miss him everday from now on. I know he is in a happier place.
Your loving granddaughter,
Maddie Wenndt

I miss him more each day. I miss his smiling face every time we came up to see him. He was always helpful and his laugh would light up a room. We all miss his presence, the house just feels empty without him. He always was a pleasure to be with and an amazing man. He was always humble and quick to give. I thank the Lord for being in his family. Rest in peace and love Poppop.
His loving Grandson,
~Tyler Wenndt

Walt is one of the finest people I have encountered in my life – a very capable, yet very gentle, man. It was a priveledge to have been able to work with him at Thomson. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. The world was much the richer for his presence and is much the poorer for his passing. I am comforted, though, to know that Walt is in the blessed presence of his Lord and Savior.

Walter was a wonderful person to work with at RCA. I really enjoyed having discussions with him on technical problems and the knowledge he provided to assist in solving them. His gentle personality and warm greeting will be missed.
