Walter G. Ehlers, 91

March 19, 2025

Walter G. Ehlers, 91, of Willow Street, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Willow Valley.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late Hans and Erna (Dammeyer) Ehlers. He was the loving husband of the late Bessie H. Ehlers and they were married for 70 wonderful years. Bess was the love of his life and he missed her deeply.

Walter was an Eagle Scout and served in the U.S. Army before earning his Master’s Degree from Rutgers University. Walter built a distinguished career in finance, dedicating nearly 20 years to the Teachers Insurance & Annuity Association in New York City, where he served as Chief Investment Officer and President. He also served on various boards including Turner Construction, The China Medical Board, AB Chance, and Neuberger Berman. Above all, Walter cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Known for his sharp mind, down-to-earth nature, and generous heart, he brought warmth and humor to everyone around him. His kindness, wisdom, and laughter will be dearly missed. Walter also loved to spend time at Long Beach Island and enjoyed biking, body surfing, clamming, skiing, and hanging out at the beach with family.

He is survived by his children, Nancy (Jerry) Olivo, Cynthia (Richard) Lynes, and Stephen (Heidi) Ehlers; his grandchildren, Erica Bracken, Craig Olivo, Jill Doran, Andrew Ehlers, Scott Olivo, Amy Karman, and Kurt Ehlers; and his great-grandchildren, Finley Doran, Wesley Karman, Connor Olivo, Audrey Olivo, Antonio Olivo, Riley Bracken, and Jane Karman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ralph Ehlers; his wife, Bess Ehlers.

The Ehlers family appreciates the generous donations made earlier this year in the memory of Bess Ehlers. Therefore, no charitable organizations are listed. Should you wish to make additional donations in memory of Walter, please choose one meaningful to you.
