William “Bill” Upton Todd III, 79

April 18, 2025

William “Bill” Upton Todd III, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18th, at the Acute Care Center of Homestead Village in Lancaster, PA. Born on March 13, 1946, in Huntingdon, PA, Bill was the beloved son of the late William Todd Jr. and Claire Hall Todd. His wife of 45 years, LaVerne Todd, preceded him in death on October 9, 2018.

Bill is survived by his loving children: Mary-Kathleen Hartenstein (Tom), William U. Todd IV (Jaclyn), and Pamela Konkol (Matthew). He is also survived by his brother, Gary Todd (Martha), seven grandchildren, loving nieces and a nephew and many cherished friends and extended family.

A proud graduate of Huntingdon High School, Bill went on to earn his engineering degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He later received his MBA from Temple University. His professional life was marked by a successful career in sales, with roles at Charles Chips and Thomas’ English Muffins, culminating in his position as East Coast Sales Manager at Seltzer’s Lebanon Bologna before his retirement in 2011.

Bill was a passionate sports fan, especially devoted to his Pittsburgh Steelers and golf. Fall Sundays were reserved for football, while summers were often spent on the golf course with friends. His love of sports was matched only by his love of community. He was an active volunteer, having served for many years with the Rotary Club of Lancaster Northeast, the Mid Atlantic Food Trades Organization and the International Deli Dairy Bakery Association during his career. He also proudly served in the Army Reserves.

Bill and his late wife LaVerne embodied the spirit of hospitality. No matter where they lived, they built strong bonds with neighbors and friends. Bill was always ready to host a gathering, greet you with a martini in hand, and deliver a perfectly timed joke—often by the grill, where he felt most at home.

Bill will be remembered for his warmth, wit, and the joy he brought to every room. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends and family are invited to gather from 3-5pm on Friday, May 9th at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz PA 17543. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
